Culturally Responsive Teaching: Strategies for the K-12 Classroom
Topics include culturally responsive pedagogy, understanding youth culture; culturally responsive practices in math and science; becoming a “warm demander” teacher; integrating multicultural perspectives in curriculum, teacher training, coaching and peer support; and understanding “windows and mirrors” as a curricular frame. We will begin by examining our own identities and the cultural lens we bring into the classroom, the spoken and unspoken cultural norms of school, and how to create cultures of freedom and liberation.
Conversational Practice
This workshop will include activities, pair-shares, small group, and big group conversation. We believe that the wisdom is in the group and our role as facilitators is to create a generative space for conversation, learning and growth.
